Resistance builds strength...

Strength doesn't come from what you can't do. Strength is coming from the things you once thought you couldn't do and if you do them whilst overcoming fears, you'll find courage as well.
All new things that you will undertake will give you more strength, especially the things you are afraid of. Those things build tenacity and resilience. Building strength both mentally and physically requires always a level of resistance.

Due to a car accident I had to spent almost  a month in a hospital. All this time I stayed in bed and hardly used my legs. When after four weeks the doctor said that it was OK to leave my  bed, they had to stop me from jumping out of it right at that moment.  I couldn't wait to be active again. In the end it took me a few days before I could walk normally again and weeks before I had my full strength back. I learned  first handed that muscles will get weak very quickly when you don't use them. I used rubber bands and weights to gain my strength back.  I used rubber bands and weights to gain my strength back , in other words I used resistance.strenght

My dad picked me up from the hospital and he said: son, you drive. I felt fear and anxiety but also an immediate mental resistance. My dad made me drive knowing that I had to push through this fear for driving caused by he accident.

My body and mind  pushed back on me not to stop me but to build strength.
You have the same feeling with 'new things' you initial feel an internal resistance. Sometimes it is because you are breaking from an old habit. At others times it is just fear, caused by an event in the past or just because you have to leave your comfort zone.  Remember growth and change is just outside your comfort zone. Hence resistance is necessary to grow and to change. Growth and change makes us more experience and more experience makes us stronger.

Awake your inner Hulk

There is tremendous power and strength inside all of us. A dormant giant is waiting to be awakened. We all come from the same universal source, we just need to tap into it and not let it go to waste. We are not machines, machines degrade every time they get used, no matter the quality it was build with.

Unlike machines, human beings get better every time they do something. Our mind and body get worst when we do nothing, but when both mind and body get engaged in a positive way, we can achieve almost anything. The important thing is we need to come into action, massive action, not tomorrow but now.... yes at this moment.
George Balanchine said: “Why are you stingy with yourself? Why are you holding back? What are you saving for-for another time? There are no other times. There is only now. Right now”
If you have an idea immediately follow it up by doing something in the direction of that idea, no matter how small. You can write it down, make drawing, put it in your calendar no matter what it is do something. There is incredible power in that. When you bring something from the 'non-existent-world', your mind, into the physical-world, transformation happens and energy starts to flow. When energy flows that's when your inner 'Hulk' wakes up.
inner hulk
Your 'dormant giant' might look inactive when you don't tap into him. If that was the case than it's may be only a waste of the to you available energy and power. Unfortunate if you don't use your inner 'Hulk' it will start using you. That sounds like nonsense but it isn't. Think about procrastination, addictions, depression, petty crimes, wrong eating habits,  all outings of boredom.
An old expression says: idleness is the mother of vice. Scripture teaches idleness or the lack of action, feeds the seven sins:Wrath, extreme anger; Greed , intensive selfish desire for material things; Sloth, reluctance to work; Vanity, excessive pride, Lust, excessive desire; Envy, jalousie; Gluttony, excess in eating. Now before you dismiss all this, I  invite you to look at it again. Is this really so different as I described earlier?
I dare to say that you are lucky if your inner giant stays asleep when you don't come into positive action. We see unfortunately enough examples, even in our near surrounding, where boredom or the lack of action turns into something very negative and far greater than just being passive or doing nothing.
So don't waste that power and wake up that giant inside of you, put it to work, bring your ideas in reality and follow your dreams. In other words; use that inner strength, get up and come into massive action.

The 9-day British Open to the World Blackpool Dance Festival is the world's first and most famous annual international ballroom dance competition. The number of participants from more than 60 different countries, is expected to be well over 3,000.

The British Open to the World Dance Festival covering a period of nine days is the largest ballroom competition in the world. The Festival covers Ballroom and Latin American dancing, incorporating the British Open Championships for Adult Amateur and Professional couples.
The 9-day Blackpool Dance Festival is the world's first and most famous annual ballroom dance competition of international significance, held at the Winter Gardens, Blackpool, England since 1920. It is also the largest competition: in 2013 the event was 88th years and there were 60 countries represented. A total number of 2,953 entries in the 12 events.
It is to be expected that the number of entries this year will grow to well over 3,000. This means that more than 1,500 couples are already preparing for their most important competition of the season.
Ballroom dancing as a competive sport has grown in propularity among the mainstream audience. Not in the least due to the top ranking prime time television shows Dancing With The Stars in the U.S. and Strictly Come Dancing in England.
Dance competitors of all levels will compete at the British Open but it is to be expected that only national champions have a shot at the title. Professional Latin U.S. Champions and reigning Professional World Latin Champions Yulia Zagoruychenko and Riccardo Cocchi came in second last year, but are top favorite to go home with the title of British Open Champions Professional Latin this year.
Dutch Professionals Latin Champions To prepare for a prestigious competition as the Blackpool festival is a matter of careful planning and dedication in practice and lessons, but it also requires teamwork. This testify current Professional Dutch Latin ChampionsDebbie Krewinkel and Remi Janssen. They are finalist and semi finalist in multiple international competitions and state that their achievements would not have been possible without careful planning and teamwork. Krewinkel and Janssen are working for years with an international team of coaches Barbara McColl from England, Erik Kock from the Netherlands and Jean Dorff from the U.S.A. each are top coaches in their own field for expertise.
Remi Janssen says that the challenge and attraction of competitive dancing lies in the fact that it's not just about finishing your rounds, it is more so about dancing them as if it doesn't take any effort. Jean Dorff claims: where in many sports movement is just a mean to a goal, like scoring a point in basketball, this is not the case with competitive ballroom dancing. In dancing the movement itself is the goal and the dancers are judged on the quality of the movement whereas in other sports scoring a point is first priority.
With millions of dance enthusiast around the world in the social, amateur and professional arena, one can only wonder why dance competitions like Blackpool are not yet broadcasted on mainstream television. I'm sure that many people would like to see how champions like Ricardo and Yulia and Remi and Debbie defend their national colors on live television.
The Blackpool British open to the world ballroom dance competition will be held from May 22nd through May 30th 2014 as the Winter Gardens, Blackpool, England.

Make the jump

To go from where we are to where we want to be, often requires a trust in something bigger and greater than ourselves. With that thrust we have to take make a jump or better yet a leap of faith.
The author / poet Edward Cummings, better know as E. E. Cummings said: "Once we believe in ourselves, we can risk curiosity, wonder, spontaneous delight, or any experience that reveals the human spirit."

I can only wonder what will happen if we even believe in something greater than ourselves...

4 DON'Ts if you want to be a winner...

Dear...

Four DON'Ts to become a winner:

Becoming a winner is as much knowing what you need to do as understanding what you should not do.

1. Don't rely on talent alone. If you have the talent for something than that is a blessing, but talent alone is not enough and relying on just your talent will certainly not be enough to become a winner. You have to take massive action, do you dues, practice, study and prepare.

2. Don't just follow in other winners footsteps. Walk the extra mile and think out of the box. Winners in any sport or discipline are game changers. Study the best, but also look beyond your discipline, see what you can learn from other disciplines or sports. Model success and apply it. Do not only do more than others but do it better, be more efficient and be more effective.

3. Don't do it all by yourself. It is perhaps lonely at the top, but all winners work with and in a team. Learn how to leverage other people strengths and use that to compensate your weaknesses. You will get more results with a team then when doing everything by yourself. Synergy is an unbeatable  concept.

4. Don't give up. Winners don't quit, they learn from their mistakes, they overcome their fears and gain confidence with every step they progress.  They don't stop  when they encounter adversity and don't lose belief in themselves even if others do. Winners have perseverance and act with tenacity. Write those two word in bold letters above your bed if you want to be a winner.

7 steps to build your confidence

Dear...

Lack of self-confidence can keep you from being truly successful in anything you want to undertake. In fact some people don't undertake anything at all because of the lack of self-confidence.

If you look at the definition of (self)confidence in the dictionary, you'll find something along the lines of: trust or faith in a person or thing; freedom from doubt; belief in yourself and your abilities. In a blog I recently read on this topic it was described as: confidence is based on the belief that you, no matter your physical attributes, net-worth, career or connections, have real worth.

In other words self-confidence is the belief that you have self worth, regardless how you look, what you posses or your abilities. Belief that you have self worth even when you are stripped of everything instead of when you have everything.

Now I understand this is easier said than done and the question many people have is: how do you gain or find self-confidence when you don't have it?

These 7 steps will give you direction to build  your confidence:

1. Have a  positive attitude. Focus on the positive things in your life and learn how to see things in a more positive perspective. Make a conscious effort to see the positive in all people, don't gossip and use only positive language.
2. Focus on what you can control and accept what you can't control. E.g. you can't control the weather but you can control what to wear or the activities you are undertaking.  Accept uncertainty, uncertainty is part of life, wanting certainty in life is probably one of the main causes of shaking self confidence
3. Practice, learn, prepare. If you look for more confidence at a performance, for instance at an exam or competition, good preparation and serious practice is half of the work. Gain confidence by doing competition or exam simulations.
4. Let go of judgement. Don't judge others and don't judge yourself.
5. There are no failures. The lack of confidence comes often from the fear of failures or mistakes. There are no failures if you learn to see that every mistake is a learning.
6. Be grateful for what you have achieved so far, celebrate your wins and have an attitude of gratitude.
7. Have clear goals and understand why they are important to you. Having absolute clarity of what your goals in life are, paired with the motivation to reach them will build enormous confidence.
